ITS A NEW YEAR !!!
We want to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010 !!! Time to get to it and start setting new goals and visions for the year. While I know 2009 was not the easiest year for many of us I want us to focus on two specific things this year that we can control. First and foremost our attitude. Our attitude is the one thing we can change about ourselves with the snap of our fingers. Second, we can all develop a healthier more energetic lifestyle by eating right and exercising on a regular basis.

At some point while training at the Tiger Academy, each of us has received a promotion by Master Eddie (Cabêson) Camden in our martial arts career. It's not often as students that we can congratulate him on a promotion. Last weekend while Profesor Pedro Sauer was in town teaching a Jiu-Jitsu seminar, Master Eddie received a second degree on his Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt. Actually making it to black belt is a tremendous achievement in its own right but having multiple degrees on a black belt is very rare. Cabêson received the first degree on his black belt by the late Grandmaster Hêlio Gracie during a 2004 seminar. Master Eddie continues to be an inspiration to us all because even at such a high level, this shows us that you can always learn and grow as a martial artist. On behalf of all the staff and students of The Tiger Academy, congratulations!

On Tuesday morning, Grand Master Helio Gracie was tanning at his ranch in Brazil, and on Thursday morning at 9:15 (Jan 29, 2009) he passed on due to natural causes. His legacy will survive forever in all members of the Gracie Family, jiu-jitsu practitioners around the world, and all those who have benefited from the revolution he began.

In his final years, the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu often spoke of his satisfaction with his life’s work. He openly stated that he had accomplished everything he had set out to do, displaying his preparedness for the transition into the afterlife.

The Grand Master believed that such a transition should be seen as a positive step in one's spiritual evolution. In a recent interview he declared: “I’ve already told my sons that when I die I want there to be a party. No drinking, no debauchery.”
